With a 3-2 victory at the Etihad on Thursday, Manchester City eliminated champions Liverpool from the Carabao Cup for this year.
For City, goals came from Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez, and Nathan Ake; for Liverpool, it was Fabio Carvalho and Mohammed Salah.
Prior to Carvalho’s equalizing goal for Liverpool in the tenth minute, Haaland had broken the scoreless tie.
Mahrez gave City the lead back after just two minutes, but Salah tied the score one minute after City fell behind 2-1.
Nevertheless, City emerged victorious as Ake scored the game’s decisive goal in the 58th minute.
City now join Manchester United, Leicester, Charlton, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last eight.
Recall City have won four of the last five Carabao Cup titles and will be gunning for their ninth this season.
