Fulham are hoping to sign Josh Maja from Girondis Bordeaux before the end of the current transfer window.
Maja currently leads the French Ligue 2 scoring charts with 11 goals and three assists in 19 league matches.
According to the French website Girondis, Fulham have begun negotiations with Bordeaux for the attacker.
In January, the Nigerian international was close to joining Sky Bet Championship team Birmingham City before the deal fell through.
Fulham have done well in their first season back in the English Premier League, but they want to add Maja to their attacking lineup, which is headlined by Serbia international Aleksander Mitrovic.
The 24-year-old spent two seasons on loan with Fulham, netting three goals in 15 league games.
Fulham may have to pay roughly £4 million to sign him.
