Ex-Chelsea Player Blames Romero, Lenglet For Aston Villa’s First Goal Against Spurs

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has blamed Christian Romero and Clement Lenglet for Aston Villa’s opening goal in Tottenham’s Premier League defeat.

Tottenham Hotspur were defeated 2-0 by Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on January 1.

Emi Buendia and Douglas Luiz scored two second-half goals to secure the victory.

Hasselbaink, as stated by Birminghammail.co.uk, challenges Lenglet and Romero’s desire on the field of play.

“That’s what you do as a striker, whether it’s a shot from midfield or not,” Hasselbaink explained.

“You never know if the goalkeeper is going to spill it, and he does. He gets the ball because he anticipates it quite well.

“But how bad is the defending of Romero and Lenglet. Have a little bit of passion, here he gets pushed away…it’s a clever ball by Watkins and well taken by Buendia.”

Romero has nine Premier League appearances this season while Lenglet has played 10 games with two assists.

Tottenham are occupy the fifth position in the Premier League after accumulating 30 points from 17 games.

Spurs will face Crystal Palace next on January 4 at Selhurst Park Stadium.
