D’Tigers Lose to Angola, Miss Out on FIBA World Cup Qualifying Ticket in 2023

After losing to Angola on Sunday, Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, failed to qualify for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

D’Tigers, who had won their previous two games against Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea, needed to beat Angola and hope that Cape Verde lost to Côte d’Ivoire.

Things did not go as planned, however, as Cape Verde defeated Côte d’Ivoire and D’Tigers lost 65-69.

Côte d’Ivoire finished first in Group E, followed by Angola and Cape Verde, and all three qualified for the World Cup.

D’Tigers finished fourth, Guinea fifth, and Uganda sixth.

Meanwhile, South Sudan and Egypt are Africa’s other two representatives, having finished first and second in Group F, respectively.
