Barcelona coach Xavi has stated that Robert Lewandowski will miss the encounter against InterCity owing to his three-match suspension.
Espanyol have filed an appeal against the Pole’s status after a Madrid tribunal suspended a three-match punishment. Following the decision, Lewandowski played in Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Espanyol over the weekend.
Xavi is scared that if he starts Lewandowski against InterCity, Barcelona would be kicked out of the competition.
“He is left out because he carries a lot of load and because we trust that he can continue with the precautions and play against Atlético in Madrid,” he stated.
“It is an uncertainty for the player and for us to know when the sanction will be resolved. I have spoken to him and told him to be calm, not to think about the sanction.
“This situation is not easy for us or for rivals.”
